Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha believes the Red Devils made a big mistake in allowing Paul Pogba leave Old Trafford.
Just before the summer of the 2012, the midfielder decided to end his career in England as he felt disrespected and frustrated after United’s legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson chose to snub him in giving a place in the Red Devils’ starting lineup.
With Pogba’s contract set to expire in the summer of 2012, the French international ended his time at Old Trafford and completed his switch to Juventus in that year. Since then, the 21-year-old has been a regular inclusion in the Turin club’s playing XI and has won two consecutive league titles.
Saha claims letting Pogba leave United was Ferguson and the club’s mistake, considering the player’s potentials.
“It’s not often I will criticise Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson but it’s clearly one of their biggest mistakes,” Saha told Talksport.
“He’s clearly a talent. He’s a confident player and he’s always trying to improve. He’s got a lot of aggression but he’s got so much potential to improve.”
“He’s been very important for France and showed in the last game [a 2-0 win over Nigeria] he can score goals and he can dictate the midfield area.”
“He was very strong in his desire to go forward and he is a great box-to-box player. He reminds me of Patrick Vieria but maybe with a bit more style,” the former United man added.
United have allowed several of their players leave in the past and they have gone away from the Old Trafford outfits to become stars for their respective clubs.
The Red Devils struggled in the central midfield position in the last few seasons and should Pogba signed a new deal at United, he would be playing alongside Adnan Januzaj wearing a Red shirt with United crest on it.
With Pogba growing in stature, it looks like United got it wrong in letting the French leave the club. He could come back and haunt the Red Devils if he decides to join any of their league rivals in the ongoing summer transfer window or in the future.
