Manchester United legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson has heaped praise on Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho for his rise in his managerial career and claims the Portuguese tactician is the perfect example for the future managers.
The former Real Madrid manager has already won the Champions League on two occasions – with FC Porto and Inter Milan in his career. He also won the league titles in Portugal, England, Italy and Spain.
Mourinho returned to Chelsea last summer and has helped the Blues sit on top of the table. The west London club have accumulated 42 points from 17 games, three points ahead of second place Manchester City.
Also, Chelsea are in the last four of the Capital One Cup and are in contention to win the quadruple this season. Ferguson claims Mourinho’s determination helped him to become a great coach.
“It’s unfair really because he’s good looking. He has that George Clooney look about him with the white bits in his hair,” Ferguson told BT Sport.
“But he is a great example. He can speak five languages… he goes and works with Bobby Robson, follows him to Barcelona, works there under Louis van Gaal.”
“Then goes to a small team in Portugal (Uniao de Leiria), then to Porto, wins the league, wins the UEFA Cup, wins the European Cup, goes to Chelsea, wins the league twice in a row, then goes to Inter Milan… that’s an example to anyone who wants to do well – you shouldn’t let the barriers be in your way if you want to get there.”
“He never played the game, but he had the determination to be a coach,” the former United manager concluded.
