Carlo Ancelotti has been confirmed as the new manager of Real Madrid and he’s been quick to promise the club’s officials and fans a spectacular brand of football.

The former Chelsea man will quickly have to come to grips with the club’s transfer position and there are several players at his former club he could target to try and take to Spain.

Chelsea are a natural choice for Ancelotti to look at because the club has endured a sustained period of success over the last decade, despite the high turnover of managers at the club.

Chelsea have to be very protective over those players and they have a great chance of hanging onto the five names Ancelotti could target, as Jose Mourinho looks to win back the Premier League title next season.

David Luiz

David Luiz is going to be a very important player for Chelsea next season because he can play a duel role in the current team.

He can play effectively as a central defender but he can also step out of defence into a holding midfield position which will be important following John Obi Mikel’s apparent decision to leave the club for Galatasaray.

David Luiz has already been touted as a possible target for Barcelona, which means Real Madrid could target him while questions remain over his availability at Chelsea.

Cesar Azpilicueta

The right back could be targeted if Ancelotti wants to change the shape of his Real Madrid defence, releasing Marcelo into a more advanced role.

Azpilicueta was superb for Chelsea last season and eventually silenced a lot of doubters who first questioned the club’s decision to sign him from Marseille and secondly his early season performances.

Chelsea must keep him because he’s more important for the balance of their own back four and basic defensive structure next season.

ramires

Ramires

Ramires is a player who could be very appealing to Real Madrid because he is so consistent.

He was a main part of the Chelsea side which won the Europa League last season and he could be targeted by Real Madrid to play a similar position in their side, which would allow their more creative players to focus on the attack.

The good news for Chelsea is that if Real Madrid go after him, he’s on a very long contract which currently expires in the summer of 2017 meaning he’s not going to be cheap and that could put them off.

Juan Mata

Juan Mata is another player who has bizarrely been linked with a move away from Chelsea this summer.

The merits of going after Mata are huge because he embodies everything which is great about the pass and move culture in football and he wouldn’t need any settling in period when going back to Spain.

He’s arguably Chelsea’s most important player so they need to protect him, wrap him up in cotton wool and reject all offers that may come in for him next month.

Fernando Torres

Torres has been linked with moves back to Spain and he could be appealing to Ancelotti as a makeshift sort of back up striker to the higher profile stars at Real Madrid.

Chelsea can use Torres’ Atletico Madrid past to prevent that from happening but more significantly, he remains a vital player to their attack in terms of the experience he provides, the options he gives Mourinho and the occasional goals he will weigh in with.
