Finally. Finally David Moyes said something positive about one of the best creative midfielders in the world and certainly of Manchester United, Shinji Kagawa, after the diminutive Japanese star produced a brilliant performance (his best of the season as per Moyes) against Real Sociedad last night at Old Trafford in the Champions League.
Kagawa, who was signed from Borussia Dortmund last season, has played a peripheral role only having managed just one Premier League appearance so far. He has been left frustrated at times while his future has been speculated in the media as well.
The 26-year-old was given a rare start and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Although the Red Devils won by a slender 1-0 margin, Kagawa was at the heart of some fascinating moves and could have added his name on the score-sheet as well, had he not missed a golden opportunity.
“I thought it was Shinji’s best game in my time here,” Moyes said.
“He hadn’t really found his feet yet but I saw something from Shinji tonight which I hadn’t seen in other games, so I was really pleased.”
“His effort when we didn’t have the ball was fantastic. With Shinji, everybody tells me about his ability and what he has got, but tonight is the first time I’ve really seen Shinji.
“I thought when we put him into the no.10 role, and even after it, he was good with Wayne. His attitude and energy were excellent and I was pleased for him.”
Fans of Man Utd.com and the club’s official Twitter account adjudged him Man of the match for yesterday’s performance. With that performance, not only Kagawa has created a bright impression before his manager for the first time but made a strong case for retaining his spot in the side for the upcoming Premier League encounter against Stoke City.
