La Liga
27 February 2010
Barcelona went back to the top of the table with a 2-1 win against Malaga. It was far from dominating and a late goal from Lionel Messi was required to get the three points.
The first half was scoreless but there would be three goals in the final 20 or so minutes of play. Pedro gave Barcelona 1-0 lead in the 69th minute who scored on a shot from outside the box. Malaga would respond quickly with a breakaway by Valdo who beat the goalkeeper from close range in the 81st minute.
With the score tied and only about 10 minutes left, who from Barcelona would step up? To no one’s surprise it was Lionel Messi who scored the match winning goal in the 84th minute. The goal was a result of brilliant passing from Xavi to Dani Alves then to Messi for the wide open net. Barca would hang on for the 2-1 win and now have a two point lead over rivals Real Madrid.
