Liverpool have confirmed their defender Sebastian Coates has completed a switch to Sunderland on a season-long loan on Monday.
The 23-year-old joined the Merseyside club in 2011 and since his move to Anfield, he has seen his first team appearances being limited. Injury and lack of form had kept him out of the Reds’ starting lineup.
The summer arrival of Dejan Lovren from Southampton had made his future at Liverpool uncertain as he had further dropped down the pecking order. Now he will be hoping to impress Brendan Rodgers during the new season with the Black Cats.
A statement on Liverpool’s official website read, ” Liverpool can confirm Sebastian Coates has joined Sunderland on a season-long loan deal.”
“The Uruguayan defender will spend the 2014-15 campaign at the Stadium of Light after completing a switch to the Black Cats today.”
“Coates has made 24 appearances and scored two goals for the Reds since joining from Nacional in August 2011,” it added.
