Chelsea are in talks with German club Werder Bremen about loaning the 27-year-old defender Papy Djilobodji.
The Senegalese defender arrived for a fee of £2.7m last summer and has failed to establish himself at his new club since then.
The former Nantes centre-back has played just once for Chelsea this season and is eager to move on in search of regular first team football.
Werder Bremen CEO Thomas Eichin has confirmed that they are negotiating a loan move with the Premier League outfit for the player.
“We are in negotiations”, he said.
A move away from Chelsea makes perfect sense for all parties involved. Despite the lack of defensive depth at Chelsea, Djilobodji is just not good enough to feature in the Premier League. The player failed to impress Jose Mourinho and nothing has changed since the arrival of Guus Hiddink.
The African’s only appearance was as a substitute against Walsall in the League cup earlier this season.
Along with Djilobodji, the likes of Remy, Pedro and Falcao have all been linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge this month. It seems that the Blues are eager to get rid of the deadwood in their squad and are likely to accept Werder Bremen’s offer for the 27-year-old.
Considering the fact that the player is keen on a move away as well, an agreement is probably just a matter of time now.
