Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria has left Old Trafford and completed a switch to Paris Saint-Germain.
After joining Louis van Gaal’s side from Real Madrid for a British record fee of £59.7m, the star player has left the Premier League giants after just one season. He had the second best highest in the 2014-15 season.
The Argentine international has a message for the supporters of his new club as he has set his sights on winning every single silverware where PSG are taking part in the new season. He is also keen on winning the Champions League with the French champions.
” “I am very proud, and can’t wait, to wear the colours of Paris Saint-Germain”, Di Maria told PSG’s official website.
“I want to win the Champions League, which is a dream for all footballers, for a second time. We will do everything we can to bring Europe’s biggest trophy to France and the fans of Paris Saint-Germain.”
After the end of the last season, he join Argentina squad for the 2015 Copa America, where they lost to host nation Chile in the final. Due to the South American championship, Di Maria missed United’s pre-season tour and was set to join them for the final fixture.
However, the former Real star failed to report to the club and Van Gaal publicly admitted that he is unaware of the winger’s whereabouts. PSG president Nasser Al Khelaïfi has expressed his delight after the club sealed the deal for Di Maria.
He says the capture of Di Maria clearly indicates PSG’s desire to compete in Europe’s top club competition.
“We are very proud that Angel Di Maria has chosen Paris Saint-Germain”, explained Al Khelaïfi.
“He is an incredibly talented player, with a frightening speed and ability to beat opposition players.
“He adds his name to the club’s strong South American community and, above all, the big Paris Saint-Germain family. By signing Angel Di Maria, Paris Saint-Germain is once again showing the club’s constant ambition to reach the summits of the European game.”
