Liverpool crumble to new lows after losing at the Stadium of Light. The reds now have 39 points from 27 games, the very similar stats they had last season as well minus the heavy spending this summer. What is more shocking is that despite spending 40 odd million just on attacking options (Not to forget the 58 million spent on Carroll and Suarez in January 2011) the club has only been able to score a mere 30 goals, just 5 more than premier league current leader Robin Van Persie alone.
For the first time since 2003 Liverpool have lost 3 league games in a row. Adding to that, the Reds have only won twice in the last eleven league games shows why they are still not a top 4 side. Kenny Dalglish got all the praise for the way Liverpool fought back at the end of last season and for winning the carling cup. The time has come that he should get all the blame for club’s agonizing league form.
The first half of the season perhaps went well but Dalglish never reacted when he should have. With Lucas Leiva in the side, Liverpool won 23 points out of possible 39. Since his injury in the carling cup against Chelsea, Liverpool have unbelievably won only 16 points out of possible 42. Slowly their brilliant defensive line started crumbling but Dalglish did not sign any CDM, instead relied on the inexperience of Jay Spearing and Mr. Blackpool Charlie Adam who fouls on perhaps every tackle he makes. Other than that all the hype about his set piece deliveries and so called Alonso Passing for nothing.
The entire world could see that Liverpool needed a goal scorer having worst conversion rate in the league but again Dalglish did not react to sign a striker in January. Instead hoped against hope that Andy Carroll will come good which never happened. Furthermore he hoped Suarez will come back after serving his 8 match ban with improved finishing and prove to be the savior but all in vain.
Liverpool fans will always love the “King” as a legend he is but without shadow of a doubt “The kingdom has changed since he last ruled”. Dalglish should have realized why other top clubs do not buy over rated British players and look for foreign talent. Everyone and I mean everyone knew that Alberto Aquilani and Raul Meireles are miles ahead of Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam, but the fans zipped themselves up, backed every decision, every signing and are now crying over it.
Dalglish claimed:
“If we were to get fourth spot it would be fantastic for the football club but winning the Carling Cup was fantastic, getting into the sixth round of the FA Cup is more than we have in a little while”
Winning a trophy after six years wait is worth celebrating but surely he is talking about the little positives and trying to ignore extreme negative facts. With no Champions League qualification, the season will always be regarded as a Failure.
