Matija Nastasic has joined Schalke on-loan until the end of the season, Manchester City have confirmed.
A statement on City’s official website read, ” Matija Nastasic has joined German side Schalke 04 on loan until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent deal.”
“The defender signed for City in 2012 after a series of impressive displays for Serie A outfit Fiorentina, and made his club debut away to Real Madrid in the Champions League.”
“Although injury limited his opportunities the following term, the 21-year-old went on to collect a Premier League medal in May 2014. A senior Serbia international since the age of 18, Nastasic has made 51 appearances for City over two and a half years in Manchester.”
“Everyone at the club wishes him luck for the rest of the campaign. You can keep up to date with Matija’s progress in our weekly Loan Watch feature right here on mcfc.co.uk,” it added.
The German club confirmed that Serbian international joined his new teammate at Doha on Wednesday.
“The new signing arrived at Schalke’s training camp in Doha shortly after midnight local time on Wednesday (14th January). Nastasic will wear the number 31 in Roberto Di Matteo’s squad,” Schalke confirmed on their official website.
“The new Schalke signing is a youth product of Partizan Belgrade. He got his first taste of first-team football at Serbian second-division team FK Teleoptik in the 2010/11 season. He joined ACF Fiorentina one year later. After 26 appearances in Serie A (2 goals), Manchester City became aware of the centre back’s talent and signed him in late August 2012.”
“Nastasic won both the Premier League and the League Cup with Manchester City last season. The 6’2’’ defender has also won 16 caps for the Serbia national team so far,” it added.
