Chelsea progress to the last 16 of the Champions League as winners of Group F, with their 1-0 win over Steaua Bucharest on Wednesday enough to seal top spot.
But despite the well-earned win and the long overdue clean sheet, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is faced with a selection dilemma, as the attacking midfield of Willian, Hazard and Oscar were individually excellent.
With the Blues’ midfield trio putting Steaua to the sword throughout the encounter, Mourinho now has five midfield players who have earned a spot in the first team – with only three slots up for grabs.
Willian, the only one of Wednesday’s chosen trinity who is not currently considered an essential first team player, was particularly superb. His turn of pace, ability with the ball, and attacking penetration was a joy to watch; with the relationship between the Brazilian, Hazard and Oscar very positive.
The aforementioned Hazard is a favourite of Mourinho; as is Oscar, who was a constant threat in his first game back from an ankle injury.
Juan Mata remains a magnificent player, and Andre Schurrle put in a fantastic individual performance against Stoke last weekend.
It is a wonder how Chelsea only managed the one goal on Wednesday; but regardless of this, Mourinho now finds himself with an uncomfortable amount of world class talent in the midfield, each of whom brings so much to the table.
What should Jose do? Who should get the chop? Let me know in the comments below…
