Chelsea are closing in on a deal to sign the highly talented Serie A defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

The 25 year old defender has had an impressive season with Napoli, but the Italian giants have failed to agree a new deal with the African

The player is valued at around £30 million and according to Daily Mail, Chelsea have won the race to sign him this summer.

Koulibaly is a target for the new Chelsea manager Antonio Conte and the player has now decided to quit Napoli. The report from Mail adds that Conte is looking to build the defence around the Napoli defender and has beaten Arsenal to the 25 year old.

The transfer is expected to be completed once the player agrees a severance package with Napoli.

Chelsea are in desperate need of a centre back after some catastrophic performances from Ivanovic and Cahill last season. Furthermore, John Terry is past his peak and Conte can longer build his side’s defensive unit around the former England defender.

Koulibaly could be the perfect foil for the extremely talented French defender Kurt Zouma. The young defender is recovering from a knee injury and is expected to be fit in time for next season.

Apparently, Arsenal’s interest in the player was only made public recently and it is too late for the Gunners now.

Mail are claiming that the centre back has already opted for a move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have already agreed a deal to sign the Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi earlier this week and will press ahead with a move for Radja Nainggolan now.
