Turkish super-club Galatasaray have stepped up their bid to bring Chelsea captain John Terry to Istanbul.
Gala boss, Roberto Mancini sees the former England defender as a potential piece of the star-studded spine at the club; and has sent London-based agent, Muzzi Ozcan in to make the first moves to sign the 32-year-old.
It is not the first time Mancini has gone for Terry, having also shown strong interest in the defender during his spell in England as Man City manager.
Now at the helm of another footballing revolution, at Galatasaray, his continued admiration for the Chelsea hero will lead him to make a bid either in the January window, or more likely in the close season, according to Turkish newspaper Fotomac.
According to the Daily Mail, the Turkish champions are prepared to offer Terry a deal worth £3.2million a year after tax, for two years, with the added option of a third.
Terry will become a free agent come the end of the current season, but is allowed to talk to overseas clubs after January 1st.
The return of Jose Mourinho at the Bridge has given Terry a new lease of life, and he has started the majority of matches under the Portuguese manager.
Chelsea are in the hunt for four trophies this season, and it seems unlikely that Terry would jump ship as early as January, considering the good feeling around the club.
Mourinho himself would be loath to lose his defensive stalwart, especially considering the undecided future of his back-line. David Luiz has fallen in and out of favour since the start of the season, and with Branislav Ivanovic considered to be a better fit at full-back, the Blues’ boss faces the prospect of a total revamp at the back; and will not want to rush into a decision in January.
But the Terry situation will be out of his hands come May, and the club’s enduring one-year contract policy for players over-30 could work in Galatasaray’s favour.
With the idea of three more years in the Champions League, and potentially playing alongside his former colleague and fellow Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba, the time for Terry to bid farewell may be fast approaching.
