The January transfer window provides clubs with the opportunity to review their plans at the start of the season and see if they are going according to plan or not. Bringing in a couple of players in the middle of the campaign enables teams to sort out injuries worries if any, and also add big-names for the long-term.

Chelsea have, in recent seasons, shelled out some huge money in the first month of the year, with the likes of Fernando Torres, David Luiz, Nemanja Matic and Nicholas Anelka all moving to West London in January,

This time though, there are hardly any issues facing manager Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese has therefore expressed his desire to have a quiet transfer window and continue with the same crop of players at his disposal currently.

“Do I plan to recruit? No. We have a small staff but we have good players, some young, others older but the team is very, very good. Our plan is to begin and end the season with the same group of players, so there will be no start and no finish in the January window”, said Mourinho.

The Blues are on course to win a quadruple of trophies this season. Last night’s 3-1 win over Derby County saw them reach the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup. They are top of the Premier League table, and comfortably through to the last 16 of the Champions League.

A player on whom a lot of speculation was growing regarding a January exit was Andre Schurrle. The German, who scored Chelsea’s third goal yesterday, was quick to dismiss any talks of a move away from Stamford Bridge.

“No I’m not going anywhere. I am very happy at Chelsea. It is here that I want to play, and where I want to give everything for the fans”, he said.
