Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte, is looking to bolster his squad in the January transfer window, as he aims to guide his side to Premier League glory this season.
According to reports from the Times, Conte wants Chelsea to sign two wing backs this month. It comes as a surprise that the Italian is looking to bolster his defence, as Chelsea have exhibited an outstanding defensive record during their 13-match winning run.
West Ham’s versatile defender, Michail Antonio, is Conte’s first choice for the right back position. For the left-back role, he wants to sign the 26-year-old German defender, Jonas Hector, who plays for Cologne.
Antonio has been the star performer for the Hammers this season, and has played at right-back, left wing, right wing and even up front as a lone striker. Also, his homegrown status makes him an attractive proposition for the Blues.
Early this month British media reported that Chelsea were lining up a bid for the in-form West Ham star, but the Hammers are unlikely to sell him in January. Antonio signed a new four-year contract at West Ham last July and he will be offered an improved deal next summer.
Chelsea have conceded only six goals in the past 14 Premier League games, but Conte still believes reinforcement is required if they are to win the title. Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso performed excellently during the winning run, but Conte wants more competition for places.
Conte is also planning to add bodies in other areas of the pitch. Chelsea are reportedly close to securing a deal with Swansea City for striker Fernando Llorente. The London giants are also considering making a move for the highly rated Monaco midfielder, Tiemoué Bakayoko.
