Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen is reportedly close to joining German club Borussia Monchengladbach on a season long loan.

Reports emerged few days back that the Denmark U21 defender was awaiting a final clearance from Chelsea before making the switch to the Bundesliga club.

German newspaper Bild has confirmed today that the deal is almost done, and just few formalities are left to make a formal announcement.

Gladbach hold a good relationship with Chelsea, having signed Eden Hazard’s younger brother Thorgan Hazard, who joined initially on loan, permanently from the London club, back in February.

The 19-year-old defender joined Chelsea in 2012 from Danish club Brondby and has been a consistent performer for Chelsea’s youth side this season.

Chelsea are looking to integrate young players from the academy but Jose Mourinho has admitted some players need to go out on loan to get the experience of playing first team football on a regular basis.

“Some of the older ones will go on loan to play every game in the Championship or the Premier League, even abroad. And we will bring some of the younger ones into the process. But to have them all at the same time in the first-team squad is hard,” Mourinho said in an interview

“I cannot have a squad of 10 men and 10 kids. I must have a squad like we have now of 16 or 17 seniors and three or four kids.”

Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma is also a subject of interest from Sampdoria. The club’s president has confirmed their interest in the French defender and according to reports in Italy, the club is preparing a meeting with Chelsea officials to let know their desire of signing Zouma on loan.
