Arsenal have been linked with a move for Riyad Mahrez all summer.
The 25-year-old Leicester City winger had a spectacular season with the Foxes last year and Wenger is keen to add him to his attacking trio alongside Ozil and Sanchez. Mahrez picked up 17 goals and 11 assists from out wide last season and was one of the main reasons why Leicester City ended up as Premier League champions.
Other Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United have been linked with the Algerian too. Apparently, the Red Devils contacted Mahrez about a potential transfer earlier this summer.
It is clear that the Premier League champions are unwilling to sell their best player and the club’s owner has made it abundantly clear with his Instagram posts over the last few days.
However, a Eurosport journalist has now confirmed on Twitter that the player wishes to play for Arsenal next summer and is hoping that a transfer can be concluded in time.
Mahrez has immense respect for Leicester and will not force a move, but the player is clearly fancying a move to Emirates.
The Algerian was recently spotted in London with an Italian journalist. His agent (supposedly) then confirmed that the Blues want to sign his client as well.
The next few days should be interesting as far as Mahrez’ future is concerned. Leicester are unlikely to sell the player once the season starts, so a transfer might have to be done in the next few days.
If Arsenal do manage to convince Leicester to sell, they will certainly be getting a top class player who will improve them significantly. Wenger has often had to field makeshift players (Ramsey, Cazorla, Rosicky etc) on the right wing over the last few seasons and signing Mahrez will address a long-term issue for the Gunners.
