Chelsea are ready to bid £40m for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema in the summer according to reports in Guardian.
Chelsea’s search for an effective centre forward is well documented by repetitive failures of Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o this season and manager Jose Mourinho is set to raid his former side in the coming transfer market.
The 26 year old Frenchman has been a pivotal figure in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad this season, leading the Los Blancos to the final of the Champions League after brushing aside holder Bayern Munich by an aggregate 5-0 scoreline over two legs.
Benzema was also an integral part of Mourinho’s setup at Santiego Bernebeu and the Portuguese is believed to be an admirer of the phenomenal striker who has scored 22 goals and grabbed 13 assists in 42 appearances this season.
There have been suggestions that Real would listen to offers for Benzema in the summer as Fiorentine Perez is keen to bring either of Luis Suarez or Sergio Aguero to the Spanish capital with the help of the funds mustered from the French striker’s sale.
So what do you think? What are your thoughts on Benzema joining Chelsea at Stamford Bridge?
