News coming in today hints at the reappearance of one of the most lengthy and high-profile transfer sagas of the summer.
According to Goal.com, Man Utd’s Wayne Rooney is still refusing to sit down and discuss a new deal at Old Trafford, which is set to expire at the end of next season.
Chelsea’s interest in the striker has been abundantly clear, with the Blues seeing two bids rejected over the summer.
It looked to all be at an end when the England striker ended up staying in Manchester for the start of the new season; but the new reports of continued tension may crank the Blues back into gear, as they look to finally put an end to their troubling striker situation.
The struggles of Torres, Ba and Eto’o in front of goal have been obvious; with a measly four goals between them in the Premier League, Jose Mourinho’s patience is starting to wear thin,
“If you tell me Aguero has scored already 10 or 12 goals, Negredo 10 or 12 goals, Dzeko four or five, Rooney eight or 10, Giroud eight or 10, Sturridge eight or 10, Suarez 10 or 12, if you ask me would I like my strikers to score eight-10-12 goals, yes,” Mourinho told ESPN after the defeat to Stoke last weekend.
Chelsea’s trio of strikers were very poor in that Stoke game, with none of them managing a single shot on target.
A shocking set of stats, and one that has filled Mourinho with frustration.
Rooney on the other hand has eight goals in the league this year, and a further seven assists to boot. Chelsea’s attacking makeup insists on the presence of an able linkup man up top, and Rooney is one of the most accomplished in the game.
Able to create, score, and assist in goals in almost every game, Wayne Rooney is the man to solve Chelsea’s crisis. If there is even the slightest inkling that Rooney is still unsettled at Old Trafford in the summer, Mourinho should do everything in his power to secure his signature.
