Chelsea and Manchester United target Marek Hamsik is set to stay at Serie A side Napoli in the summer, the club’s president Aurelio De Laurentis has revealed.
The Slovakian has undergone a torrid time at Naples since the turn of the new year, finding life tough under new boss Rafa Benitez. Hamsik had been linked with a move to the Premier League this month, but Napoli are now seemingly unwilling to sell their prized asset.
It had been reported that Rafa Benitez’s side would be willing to listen to offers for the 26-year-old, but Laurentis now has moved to quash any such claims.
The Napoli president said to radio Kiss Kiss, “Hamsik has identified himself with the city, becoming Neapolitan. The journalists are putting him on the market. Hamsik is not for sale unless he is asking me to go away, but I do not think it feels like.”
Slovakia national team coach Jan Kozak also backed Hamsik to come good after some testing times at the Serie A club,
“At Napoli there is a new Coach, there are some new players, and let’s not forget that Marek has also had some physical problems. He is an absolute professional and is connected to Napoli, so I am sure he will overcome this period.
“He has already achieved so much success in the game, but he also has the potential to grow and improve. He has an excellent first touch of the ball, for example. He is 26 and has improved with the ball -his behaviour is professional and he is an example to follow.”
