Chelsea have been linked with several defenders ever since Antonio Conte took charge of the Premier League giants. The latest name linked with them is that of the Napoli full-back, Faouzi Ghoulam.
Apparently, the Algerian full-back was a target for Antonio Conte, and the Blues had a €28m bid rejected for the star during the summer transfer window.
Le Buteur are reporting that Marcos Alonso was not a priority for Conte, but the Chelsea manager had to sign the Fiorentina defender after failing to land Ghoulam in the summer.
The 25-year-old defender has been ever-present for the Italian giants over the last two seasons, and it is highly unlikely that Aurelio de Laurentiis will let go of him midway through the season. Ghoulam is one of the best defenders in Serie A right now, and has picked up five assists in 17 appearances for Napoli this season.
The report adds that Chelsea could revive their interest in the player in January. Considering the fact that Branislav Ivanović and John Terry could leave the club soon, a future move for Faouzi Ghoulam cannot be ruled out. Le Buteur are also claiming that Napoli are looking for full-backs, and a move for Ghoulam might be possible at the end of this season.
It will be interesting to see if Chelsea decide to pursue the player at the end of this season. One thing is certain, Napoli won’t sanction a sale in January and Chelsea don’t necessarily need a full-back in January either.
