Chelsea have been linked with several strikers this summer and the latest name to be linked with a transfer to Stamford Bridge is that of Mauro Icardi.
The Inter Milan striker was linked with a Chelsea transfer under Jose Mourinho as well. Apparently, the former Chelsea manager texted the player about a potential move back then.
The Premier League side were very keen on re-signing the Everton striker Romelu Lukaku this summer, but it appears that Everton are ready to reject any approach below the 75 million pounds mark for the Belgian.
Chelsea have agreed to pay up to 65 million pounds for the Belgian but Everton insist on more.
According to Daily Star, Chelsea have decided to end their pursuit of Lukaku now and are willing to make a move for Icardi.
The report adds that Antonio Conte is a big fan of the Argentine striker.
Icardi is likely to cost around 50 million pounds. Although the player is not worth that much, a deal for the Inter Milan striker is likely to be significantly cheaper than a move for Lukaku.
The Argentine striker has scored 16 goals for the Italian side last season and could be a vital addition to Chelsea’s attack. He has been linked with a move to Arsenal as well.
Even though Conte has Costa and Batshuayi, the Blues are missing a clinical finisher and Icardi is the type of poacher who will add a different dimension to their attack.
It remains to be seen whether the Blues come up with an official offer for the South American striker now. A transfer could be complicated now that Inter have a new manager in De Boer.
The former Ajax manager might not want to sell his best striker this late in the window.
An alternative to Icardi is the Brazilian striker Gabriel Barbosa.
