Chelsea are running out of patience with Diego Costa and the Premier League champions are looking at other strikers to replace the Spanish international.
After an impressive season last year, Costa has struggled to fit in and deliver this season. The Spanish international has been involved in several on pitch antics and public disagreements with manager Jose Mourinho.
It appears that the Premier League champions are now looking to get rid of the troublesome striker and sign a replacement soon.
According to Guardian, Michael Emenalo has been running the rule over four potential candidates who can replace the former Atletico Madrid man.
The likes of Berahino, Vardy, Griezmann and Texeira have been earmarked as potential replacements for the Spanish international.
Despite their goal tallies, Vardy and Berahino would be underwhelming alternatives to the Brazilian as both players are limited in their style of play and are hardly proven at European level.
It is quite surprising to see these players being linked with a club like Chelsea.
Time will tell if it is just a rumour, but in case there is truth to it, the homegrown players rule could be playing a part in Chelsea’s interest in these players.
On the other hand, a move to Griezmann and Texeira would make perfect sense. Both players have proven themselves in the Champions League and have attracted a lot of attention from around Europe.
Diego Costa has been linked with a return to Atletico Madrid and manager Diego Simeone has claimed previously that he would be delighted to have Costa back.
Whether or not a move materializes, remains to be seen. But a transfer away from Chelsea is perhaps the best solution for Costa as well as the club.
