Chelsea are in the market for a new striker and possibly a new midfielder as well. Club legend Frank Lampard is reaching the apogee of his career while midfielder John Obi Mikel could be sold in the summer, which means signing a new midfielder is a high possibility.
According to Italian radio station Sportmediaset, Chelsea are looking to sign Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, who has missed more than half of the season through injury. Furthermore, his arrival will force Mikel out of the club, with Inter Milan ready to take gamble on the Nigerian.
The 27-year-old is known to be a long target of both Chelsea and Manchester United. The German was targeted by United last season, while reports emerged back in February that Khedira, who was a firm favourite of Mourinho during his time at the Spanish club, wants to midfield man to join him at the Stamford Bridge next summer.
Khedira even voiced his frustration for getting minimal opportunities at Madrid. He told to German magazine Kicker before getting injured:
“I’m not a Spanish player, I did not cost a lot of money and I am one of Mourinho’s disciples. I started the season on the bench or in the stands. Even if I play well, I am the scapegoat and so will not be properly valued.”
Though we are not sure whether Chelsea need a player like Khedira, but Italian media suggests that Mourinho wants the German midfielder at the Bridge and would sanction the sell of Mikel.
