The Blues have been in fine form over the past few weeks, racking up an excellent seven-match winning run in all competitions.

Frank Lampard’s team were hugely impressive at Burnley in the Premier League over the weekend, recording a stylish 4-2 victory against Sean Dyche’s side.

That result followed an excellent 1-0 success at Ajax in the Champions League that moved them to the top of Group H.

They will undoubtedly be eager for revenge against United, having been demolished 4-0 at Old Trafford in their season opener.

It was United’s biggest home win over Chelsea since 1965, with goals by Marcus Rashford (2), Anthony Martial and Daniel James crowning a memorable performance.

United failed to reach the same heights thereafter, sparking talk that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future was in doubt.

However, the Red Devils will head into the match on the back three much-improved performances over the past week that have significantly lifted the mood around the club.

They ended Liverpool’s 100% league record with a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, before winning 1-0 at Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League.

They followed up with a comfortable 3-1 success at Norwich City on Sunday and will be confident of continuing their good form at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have made two changes to the starting XI that beat Rochdale 7-1 in the previous round of the Carabao Cup.

Jorginho comes into the side as captain with Mateo Kovacic joining him in midfield. Full-back Tariq Lamptey makes the bench for the first time.

Solskjaer has made four changes to the United side that won at Carrow Road. Sergio Romero replaces David De Gea in goal, while Marcos Rojo has been chosen ahead of Ashley Young.

Brandon Williams and Jesse Lingard are also given starts, with Andreas Pereira and Martial dropping to the bench.

Chelsea last faced United in this competition in a fourth round tie in October 2012, winning a 5-4 thriller in extra-time.
