Serie A giants, AS Roma, are reportedly interested in signing Charly Musonda, who has returned early to Chelsea from his loan spell with Real Betis. According to reports from TMW, Roma officials were in London on Thursday and are expected to hold talks today for the possible transfer of the Belgian midfielder.
Musonda returned to Chelsea earlier this month after an unsuccessful loan spell with Betis. He struggled to make an impact this season, managing only one La Liga start for his side.
Antonio Conte, the Chelsea manager, revealed that he will give Musonda a chance to establish himself at the London club. However, there is a high possibility that he could be sent on loan again to get regular games under his belt, something that Conte cannot guarantee him at Chelsea.
Musonda’s father has revealed a few days ago that his son also has an option to join AS Roma on loan, if he fails to impress the Chelsea manager within such a short time.
He said, as quoted by Het Laatste Nieuws:
There are only two options – Charly Jr. stays at Chelsea until the end of the season or he’ll join AS Roma on loan. Conte will have the final say. Charly gets the chance to prove himself in training. A return to Belgium is not an option.
Chelsea are stocked with quality attacking midfielders, and it will be hard for the 20-year-old to get into the first team straightaway. Therefore, a move to Roma makes a lot of sense. The Giallorossi are looking to replace Juan Iturbe, and wants the Belgian to fill his place.
