Manchester United have informed Louis Van Gaal about his Champions league target.
Van Gaal has been handed more than 100 million pounds to strengthen his squad this summer and has been told to reach the Quarter finals of the Champions League, at the very least.
The club’s investors have been informed that despite the defeat away to PSV this week, the targets have not changed and that the club is still confident of making the last eight in Europe’s most prestigious competition.
A club spokesman said: “We’ve not changed our assumptions of the quarter finals for the Champions League.”
Van Gaal has signed several top class players this summer in the form of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, Anthony Martial. Despite their drop in revenues (due to the lack of Champions League football under Moyes), Van Gaal had the funding to secure the top names in world football.
Manchester United have the squad to challenge on all fronts this season. Although the Old Trafford outfit would have liked a better selection of defenders, they have considerable depth to secure their position in the last eight.
It will be interesting to see how Manchester United pick themselves up from the PSV defeat and setup in their next European fixture, which at this moment looks like a must win.
A similar result in their next game and Louis Van Gaal will find himself under immense pressure.
