Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has reacted to the comments made by Sergio Ramos recently, saying the Real Madrid defender should have said to him personally rather than going public.
Just a quick recap of what has happened so far:
a) Spain national team boss Vicente de Bosque chose to omit Diego Costa mainly on precautionary grounds on La Roja’s recent international matches. Cesc Fabregas was also ruled out through injury.
b) It is indeed a normal issue. But Spanish press took it otherwise. They felt Jose Mourinho’s mastermind is at work here and that Spain boss must not succumb to the pressure created by the Chelsea boss. They claimed that the decisions (not to play Costa and Fabregas) were taken by medical team of both camps keeping the Spain manager in dark.
c) The press finds angle to write, nothing new in it. The situation took an ugly turn when Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos got involved into the matter unnecessarily. He brought up issues like player’s commitment and hinted that Costa and Fabregas should have ignored their injuries to play for the national team.
d) “It is difficult because this is not a club team, but the national team where you do not come here every day,” Ramos said per ESPN. “Laying out rules is difficult. Often with injuries there can be a world of difference between what we have and what is said in public.
“Above all I would have like the players to show the same commitment to the national team as they do to their club. You must communicate this commitment and spirit to all the new players. Whether you club pays, or the national team.”
e) Del Bosque clarified the situation by saying it was his decision to rest the Chelsea duo and that he is the best judge to decide whether a player prefers club over his country.
f) Jose Mourinho reacted to Ramos’ comments recently by sarcastically saying the Real Madrid defender is a very good player but he is no doctor.
Now, it was Fabregas’s turn to comment on the matter. The Spain midfielder, who has been in sparkling form this season, said as quoted by Catalan newspaper Sport:
“Yes, I felt like Ramos was alluding to something with his comments but I spoke to him on the telephone, told him we’ve played together since the U21s and that he doesn’t need to send messages through the media. He can say it to my face.”
“Mourinho never told me not to go. It hurts me that my commitment is questioned after 9 years and 94 games for Spain.”
Well, we are waiting for Diego Costa to make some comments and then Ramos to rest his case with a counter argument. Then Del Bosque. Mourinho again. Well done Ramos for spicing things up!
