Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta has no intentions of leaving the club, despite strong interests from La Liga clubs Real Madrid and Barcelona.
The Spaniard, who has a contract until June 2019, has been ever present for Chelsea this season. His exceptional positional awareness and tactical discipline has not only given an added stability at the back but also brought the best out of veteran defender John Terry.
The 25-year-old has made it clear that he will continue with Chelsea next season and says he is not thinking about moving elsewhere at the moment.
In an interview with RMC, he said: “Stay in the summer? Of course! I think of nothing else. I currently play for the best team in England, I do not think of any other clubs.”
Despite the arrival of Luis Felipe this season, Azpilicueta has remained as Mourinho’s first choice in the full back roles. He can play in both the flanks and his assured presence at the back makes him a true asset for his team.
A move to Barcelona or Real Madrid is a highly attractive proposition for any Spanish player, but Azpilicueta does not need to move elsewhere at the moment. He is playing regularly and winning trophies – what more can he ask for?
