According to reports from the Daily Mail, Turkish club Fenerbahce are looking to cash in on former Liverpool defender, Martin Skrtel.

The report suggests that Swansea City have enquired about the availability of Skrtel, and haven’t been disappointed with the reply.

Fenerbahce signed Skrtel from Liverpool for around £5 million in 2016, and they’re looking to recoup most of that for the 32-year-old defender. Put simply, they are ready to sell.

Brendan Rodgers should make a move ahead of Swansea and tempt Skrtel to move to Parkhead this summer.

Celtic had enjoyed a historic 2016/17 campaign where they won domestic treble by remaining unbeaten throughout. But, this time, there is a bigger challenge lie ahead.

The gulf between Celtic and the rest are so huge that it is hard to see others dethroning the Bhoys from winning the title next season.

What Rodgers needs now is quality and depth in the side that will push them for a decent run in the European competitions next season.

And that is why signing a player like Skrtel is important. The Slovakian has a wealth of experience, having played over 315 games for the Reds during his time at Anfield.

Solid at the back, good at tackling and clearance, Skrtel has few more years left in him to compete at the higher level.

If Celtic can conclude a deal for him in an around £4 million, it would represent a cracking piece of business.

Skrtel could be tempted to join a big club like Celtic, and can be lured with the offer of regular and Champions League football, something Swansea cannot offer.
