Chelsea v Arsenal
English Premier League
Stamford Bridge
Sunday 07 February 2010
Kickoff: 16:00 GMT

Arsenal have taken 1 point from their last two league games and many pundits, including those here at Soccerlens, have claimed that Arsenal’s title challenge is over. Chelsea’s recovery of their home record (winning 19 of their last 23) and Arsenal’s defeat to Chelsea in November will feed more fuel to that fire.

However, if you’re an Arsenal fan, there’s hope in two forms. One, Arsenal’s form away from home this season – especially the way they play against more established teams – has been fairly decent. Where they were outclassed by United at the Emirates they almost managed to embarrass them at Old Trafford, and last season it was the same with Chelsea, beating them at Stamford Bridge but losing at the Emirates.

Secondly, while the season still has some way to go but if Arsenal were to lose this game, they still have the easier run-in of all top three teams. And we all know how well Arsenal do against the smaller sides, so hope is not lost yet.

Chelsea have every reason to be bullish about their chances. Top of the table, cruised through January without Drogba, players on form and everyone’s favourites to win the league title this season. They have the quality and experience to tonk Arsenal for another 2-3 goals without reply – whether they can mentally dominate Arsenal is another story and one we’ll have to see on Sunday.

Betting Tip: Drogba is 9/2 to be the first goalscorer, while a penalty award, at 15/8, is a nice side bet (Mike Dean has given 11 penalties in 16 Premier League games this season).
