Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has indicated that Mikey Johnston will not be leaving Parkhead on loan this summer.
Recent reports have suggested that Celtic would be prepared to offload the 19-year-old Johnston in a deal which would see John McGinn coming to Parkhead.
Celtic have so far seen two of their bids rejected for McGinn. However, if they persist with higher amounts, there is a big chance that they will be successful as the player has just one year left on his current deal on his current contract with Hibernian.
The Hoops could benefit from sending Johnston on loan. He could struggle to earn regular game-time with the Bhoys next season and sending him away on loan could just allow him to gain experience as he continues to learn and develop as a player.
Rodgers however is adamant that Johnston will play a role in his first-team plans for next season.
He said according to Sky: “He is very much staying here at Celtic at this point in time,”
“He is an exciting young talent at 19 years of age. He is learning the other side of the game in terms of the tactical idea of pressing and how to work and how to recover but there is no doubt he is a special talent.
“So at this moment in time he is very much in my plans. We need to develop him, get him some games and if that changes there is a number of options with teams that would like to take him, but at this moment he stays.”
