Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva has played down talks which have reported that his career might be over at Liverpool. After the Reds beat Newcastle by 2-1 at Anfield on the last day of the season, the 27 year took to his Instagram account to post pictures of his family after the final whistle.
However he tweeted from his personal account thanking all the supporters of the club who have supported him for the past seven years.
Ontem terminei minha sétima temporada pelo Liverpool. Gostaria de agradecer aqueles que me apoiaram… http://t.co/T5GCB8j6rZ

This led to speculations that Lucas would walk out of Merseyside in the summer having just made 20 starts for the Reds this season. With Brendan Rodgers playing a midfield diamond and Jordan Henderson’s resurgence meant the Brazilian has lost out a regular starting spot.
Brendan Rodgers has used Steven Gerrard as a holding midfield role this season, while Joe Allen was preferred ahead of Lucas at times. Furthermore, Rodgers will be trying to bring in one or two top central midfielders as well in the summer, which means Lucas could become a surplus to requirements for the Reds.
Lucas however was quick to squash the speculations saying, that the goodbye he tweeted was regarding the end of the season and nothing else.
O tchau foi referente a temporada que terminou nada mais . The goodbye that I said it is about the season that finished nothing else.

Lucas is a hard working player no doubt but following a succession of injuries, he has become a shadow of the player he was couple of years back. For the moment, he is going nowhere.
