Firstly, it was bizarre to see Manchester United let go Adnan Januzaj on a season long loan deal to Bosrussia Dortmund that too on deadline day in the summer transfer window. The 20 year old had featured in Louis Van Gaal’s starting eleven in the earlier Premier League encounters against Aston Villa and Newcastle United.
Reports now from German daily Bild claim that Dortmund have a first refusal option on the Belgian winger come next summer. However, Bild’s journalist Heiko Niedderer tweeted earlier that the German side do not have a purchase option.
BVB bekommt übrigens doch keine Kaufoption bei Januzaj! Bezahlt dafür aber auch keine fixe Leihgebühr. #BVB

There is also no buy-out clause inserted in the deal so what does this first refusal actually mean? The term basically gives us a clear message: If Manchester United are willing to sell Januzaj next summer, it will be Dortmund who will be first notified about the Red Devils’ desire to part ways with the player.
Dutch media outlet Voetbal Primeur however have an interesting take on the situation. They claim the first refusal option as a secret agreement which has now come out in the media.
They also highlight English outlets’ speculations who claim that Januzaj has been let go to Dortmund so that United could be in good terms with the Bundesliga outfit as they have Marco Reus and Mats Hummels in their sights.
Januzaj scored a goal for Dortmund during a friendly earlier this week and could make his official debut against Hannover on Saturday. Manager Thomas was quoted by ESPN telling reporters: “Everything’s possible.”
