According to reports in Belgium, Liverpool are set to go all out for Belgian international Christian Benteke.
The Aston Villa striker is thought to be the main priority for the Reds this summer. The departure of Suarez and injury to Daniel Sturridge has left the Reds toothless upfront and Rodgers reckons that Benteke is the man to solve his goalscoring problems.
Aston Villa are set to demand 42 million euros for the Belgian striker. However HLN state that Liverpool’s opening offer will be around 30 million euros.
Benteke struggled to perform for most parts of the season, but the arrival of Sherwood brought the very best out of Benteke. The Belgian scored at an average of 1.1 goals per game since Tim Sherwood took charge.
Liverpool are set to table a formal bid of 30 million euros after Saturday, once the Villans are done with their FA Cup duties.
Benteke scored earlier this season to knock the Reds out of the FA Cup Semi final and has always enjoyed good outings against Brendan Rodgers’ men.
Should Liverpool decide to meet Villa’ demands, Benteke will become the most expensive Belgian ever, ahead of Eden Hazard and De Bruyne.
It would be certainly interesting to see how Benteke solves Liverpool’s goalscoring problems considering he is a exact opposite to how Brendan Rodgers’ teams play.
The Belgian thrives on aerial service and is not the most mobile forward around. Does the transfer signal a change to Brendan Rodgers’ system next season? we shall see.
Meanwhile, lack of competition from other sides means that the Reds are likely to get their man if they really want him.
