Barcelona have joined Juventus in the race to sign Adam Lallana. The England midfielder has produced outstanding performances for Liverpool this season, and have caught the attention of leading European clubs. According to reports from the Times, there could be a bidding war in the summer for him if the former Southampton midfielder does not agree upon an Anfield contract extension in the interim.
Lallana has been brilliant this season under Jürgen Klopp, scoring seven league goals and providing as many assists as well. He has two years remaining on his contract, and talks are expected to take place in the next few months.
The England midfielder wants to stay at Liverpool for the long term, and his chances of signing a new deal will only improve if Liverpool return to the Champions League next season.
Lallana said last month, as quoted by the Times:
I love it here at the minute, especially since the manager has come in. We have each other’s trust and you don’t always get that at clubs. The thought of leaving Liverpool has never entered my mind.
French champions, PSG are most interested in him, but Barcelona will target the English midfielder if they fail to sign Lallana’s team-mate, Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian forward has been a reported target of Barcelona, but Liverpool are not willing to sell their prized asset. He has three years left on his contract, and Liverpool will demand a huge fee, as he has no buy-out clause on his contract.
Juventus also see Lallana as a potential alternative signing to Alexis Sánchez. The Chilean winger is yet to sign a new deal with the Gunners, but he may choose to commit his future with the London club.
