Arsenal star, Mesut Ozil, is looking to return to Real Madrid if recent reports are to be believed.
Spanish publication Marca are reporting that Ozil and the PSG winger, Di Maria, have both offered their services to Real Madrid, and have informed Los Blancos how much they enjoyed playing for the Spanish giants during their time at the club.
There is no doubt that both players played their best football at Real Madrid, but Marca‘s report makes very little sense. Ozil seems to have recaptured his Madrid form at Arsenal this season, and is apparently negotiating a new deal with the Gunners. The German has also looked very happy in recent games and training sessions. Also, Di Maria recently signed for PSG in a big-money deal, and there is no way they will sanction a sale anytime soon.
Also, it is important to remember that Real Madrid operate in a 4-3-3 nowadays, and it would be impossible to accommodate Ozil and Di Maria in their current system without dropping the likes of Bale and Ronaldo. Furthermore, it is unlikely Real Madrid will shell out top dollar for two players who won’t fit their system.
Marca claim that Florentino Perez has taken notice of their requests and is considering the situation. As per the report, both players regret leaving Real Madrid.
It is natural for top-class players to want to play for clubs like Real Madrid, but in this instance, the report lacks credibility. Having said that, if Real Madrid decide to let go of Isco and James Rodriguez in the summer, a move for Ozil and Di Maria could make sense. But in that case, both Ozil and Di Maria will need to be content with limited game time as neither Isco or James are regular starters for Los Blancos.
Ozil and Di Maria are at the peak of their careers right now, and it is highly unlikely that they will settle for a limited role in order to secure a return to Bernabeu.
