Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal recently admitted that he would be needing a world class attacking midfielder in the summer.
Going by the media reports, we understand that United could be looking to sign either of Paul Pogba or Kevin Strootman.
Pogba, the young French midfielder, who left United in 2012, has went on to establish himself as one of the best young midfielders in the world. It remains to be seen whether United swallow their pride and bring him back, although Juventus would be expecting to demand a high transfer fee, in the region of £75m.
Juve boss Allegri said recently: “Everything in life has a price, unfortunately. I don’t think it is a problem we need to consider right now.
“It is difficult to replace world class players, but it can be done, as football goes on.
“Pogba is only 21 years old, has a good 10-15 years ahead of him and more importantly has the qualities to do much better than he is now.
“To win games you need great players, otherwise there wouldn’t be players that clubs pay €100m (£75 million) for. As with every profession, there are levels.”
It seems increasingly likely that Pogba would leave Juventus at some point in near future, with several European heavy weights are vying for his signature.
According to former Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka, the 21-year-old midfielder should join the London giants to continue his development.
“Paul technically knows everything, and he has the qualities to play anywhere,” said Anelka to France Football, via ESPN.
“My preference is for him to join Chelsea, who have very strong players and the financial power of [Roman] Abramovich. Also Real Madrid, who are one of the biggest clubs in the world, if not the greatest. He would grow a lot under Carlo Ancelotti.”
Pogba could be a good signing for Chelsea but where will he fit in? Chelsea already have the likes of Fabregas and Matic as first team regulars, while Ramires has rediscovered himself this season – Pogba represents a shinny toy in the market, one that Chelsea could easily do without.
