RACECARD No.1s (currently set at 35-38) looks a buy with Spreadex today. Pace angle AWAY AT DAWN holds obvious claims in the four-runner opener and OSCAR ROBERTSON, a winner second-time out in each of the past two seasons, looks sure to come on for his recent reappearance at Newbury and is the bet of the day in the 1.45. ANTUNES is the outsider of four in the 2.50 but Dan Skelton’s topweight might improve for the fitting of a first-time tongue-tie after disappointing on his return to action at Aintree. He too won at the second time of asking last season. The other three running for us are big prices, though DILLARCHIE isn’t without hope in the bumper despite the 218-day break. Joanne Foster’s filly won on her debut last term.

HEREFORD 2.40
It could be worth opposing NIKAP, 6-4 second favourite with Spreadex in their fixed odds betting and 26-29 on the spreads, in this four-runner handicap hurdle. Trainer Evan Williams has a poor record in handicap hurdles at this venue, scoring with just six of the 133 qualifiers this century (expected winners = 14.57) for a loss of £107.02 to a £1 level stake at SP. Niknap has won over fences the last twice but only finished fifth (7-2) when last reverting to hurdles, albeit for another yard. Softer ground would also be ideal.
Recommendation: Oppose NIKAP in Hereford 2.40
