Horse Racing Betting Tips for Friday October 29th

NEWMARKET overview

There’s a strong headwind forecast at Newmarket today, a track that usually favours prominent racers. The bias is likely to be turned on its head, as it was at the meeting here on October 2nd. JAMIE SPENCER, who has a well -deserved reputation for giving his mounts patient rides, was in his element that day, scoring from off the pace on Cash (8-1) and Via Sistina (12-1) and finishing second on Farhh To Shy (7-1). Both his rides could outrun their odds today…

NEWMARKET 12.45

Spencer’s rider in the opener, MOUNT KOSCIUSZKO, has run respectably from off the pace in two all-weather outings this month, improving his RPR (Racing Post Rating) by 7lb when beaten by just over four lengths into a 5-1 fifth of 12 at Wolverhampton last time. It’s possible that we won’t see the best of him until handicapping but he could be well drawn in stall 11 of 13 (the stalls are on the stands’ side today) and he might be able to sneak into the frame. At the time of writing he was a 20-1 shot in the SpreadEX fixed odds betting. Buying him in the 50-30-20-10 spread market is another option.

Recommendation: Back MOUNT KOSCIUSZKO in Newmarket 12.45

NEWMARKET 2.30

Spencer’s second mount, RED LACEWING, has more obvious claims. Fozzy Stack’s filly was well drawn when scoring at Naas last time, but it would be harsh to say she was flattered. The form is working out well and she shapes as though the step up to 6f will suit in this Listed contest. She’s going to be switched off towards the rear and, with luck in running, should be on the premises late. Backing her at  11-2 in the SpreadEx fixed odds market is one angle, buying in the 50-30-20-10 spread market is another.

Recommendation: Back RED LACEWING in Newmarket 2.30

NEWMARKET RACING POST FAVOURITES

That October 2nd Newmarket meeting saw the FAVOURITES market make up at 55 and it could be worth a sell today (it’s currently set at 78-82. YANTARNI, the likely favourite in the opener, could struggle to get cover from stall 1, BAHRAIN PRIDE, who heads the current betting in race three, usually makes the running which could leave him vulnerable and WHITEHAVEN, favourite in the 3.05, is another who tends to go from the front. DESERT DREAMER, who heads the current betting in the 2.30, has been struggling to get her head in front and is another who might not pick up the maximum of 25pts. However, there’s a chance some of these horses I want to field against might drift in the betting and not start as favourite so I’m going to recommend that we sell the RACING POST FAVS market, currently set at 73-77 and based on the horse forecast to start as favourite in the Racing Post tissue. These also include GODDESS OF FIRE in the 4.50, whose front-running style could be her undoing.

Recommendation: Sell RACING POST FAVS at Newmarket
