Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera picked up a muscle injury and that forced him to miss the last league clash against Aston Villa.
Louis van Gaal saw his side’s six match winning streak end against Paul Lambert’s side on Saturday at Villa Park as the match ended in a 1-1 draw. The Spaniard missed the clash, along with Belgium international Marouane Fellaini.
Herrera confirmed on his Instagram page that he had picked up a little injury and is hoping to make a quick comeback. He wrote, “Well done mates! One more point to keep us in the top positions. I can’t be with the team today due to a little injury, but I will be ready again soon. Cheers to everyone!”
United have struggled with injuries this season as they have missed several key players throughout this season. Daley Blind and Chris Smalling are still on the treatment table as Luke Shaw and Angel Di Maria returned to full training last week.
The Red Devils next face Newcastle United for the Boxing Day clash on Friday. The Guardian reports Herrera is likely to be fit to face the Tyneside club, when they visit Old Trafford later this week.
The midfielder’s return will give Van Gaal few options during the team selection and the Dutchman will be hoping his side can defeat Newcastle in order to keep pressure on Chelsea and Manchester City.
