Liverpool were heavily interested in signing Shakhtar Donetsk’s prolific forward, Alex Teixeira, in the January transfer window. The Reds had two offers rejected by the Ukrainian club in January, and the Merseyside club didn’t make a third offer as they felt Shakhtar’s demands are too high for the Brazilian.
Teixeira revealed his desire to join Liverpool, but unfortunately the deal didn’t materialise for him in the end. Shakhtar were only concerned on the financial side of things, and they were happy to sell him to any club who would match their £38m valuation.
It appears that the highly talented Brazilian is now nearing a move to Chinese side Jiangsu Suning on a massive deal.
Shakhtar Manager Mircea Lucescu told French newspaper L’Equipe that the club had sold Teixeira to the Chinese club when asked to comment on the Brazilian’s future.
“It’s true, we have sold to China,” said Lucescu.
He is all set to join Jiangsu Suning on a reported £38.4m deal. He hasn’t yet agreed personal terms with the Chinese club, but he has plenty of time to do it, as the Chinese transfer window is open until 26th February.
With due respect to the Chinese league, Teixeira’s move baffles more than anything else. At 26, he is fast approaching the peak of his career, and he is good enough to play for an elite-level European club. It is indeed frustrating that he gave his consent to the deal, as any ambitious player, who has yet to achieve anything significant in his playing career for both club and country, wouldn’t have wasted his career playing in China.

Shakhtar confirmed on Friday that they have agreed a fee to sell Teixeira. The Brazilian will complete the transfer for €50 million (£38.5 million), within next few days:
“Shakhtar Donetsk and Jiangsu Suning FC have agreed on all the necessary formalities for the transfer of Alex Teixeira to the Chinese club. Transfer fee for the Brazilian midfielder is €50 million.”
