Chelsea need to be patient with Mourinho, he can turn it around

After the sackings of Brendan Rodgers and Dick Advocaat, from Liverpool and Sunderland respectively, Mourinho appears to be the next name on the list.

The spat with Eva Carneiro, punishment for criticizing referees and a disastrous start to the season has piled enormous pressure on the world class Chelsea manager. Mourinho has to deliver now, or Chelsea risk missing out on European qualification (let alone a title challenge).

Getting rid of Mourinho seems like an easy fix at this moment, but it would be illogical and poor planning on behalf of the Premier League champions.

Mourinho has not become a bad manager overnight, he is going through a rough patch and he is more than capable of turning it around. Arguably the best manager in the world, Mourinho has the experience and maturity to turn things around with a little support.

Here at Soccerlens, we look at why Chelsea must stick with their manager.

Lack of long term replacements

Yes, Carlo Ancelotti is available and he is an outstanding coach. Furthermore, he has won the Premier League title with Chelsea in the past.

But after being sacked in two years, will he consider a return to Stamford Bridge? Also, at his age, Ancelotti is anything but a long term appointment.

At this stage, Chelsea must look for continuity and sustainable development, which is not possible with Ancelotti.

Huge Payoff

Jose Mourinho earns 10 million pounds a year and has got 3 years plus the rest of this season left on his contract.

Does it really make sense to fork out 40 million pounds to sack him after just eight games?

That money will be better utilized supporting him in the January transfer window.

Motivational skills

When a team hits a rough patch like Chelsea, sometimes all they need is a bit of confidence and motivation.

Chelsea have enough quality in their side, but Mourinho’s men are lacking in confidence and desire.

There are few managers in world football who are better at motivating players than Jose Mourinho.

‘Us against the world’ – has been the mantra behind Mourinho’s success everywhere.

The Portuguese has managed to motivate his side at crucial periods of the season and his famous siege mentality could come in handy right now.

Chelsea players need a bit of fire in their belly and Jose convincing them that there is an agenda against his players, is just what they need – a proper battle cry.
