In an interview with Football Insider, Darren Bent has said that he would like to see Che Adams make the move to Leeds United, having failed to make an impression with Southampton in the Premier League.
The 23-year-old made the high-profile move to the top-flight with the Saints last summer after netting 22 goals from 46 appearances for Birmingham City in all competitions.
However, he has since gone on a lengthy goalscoring drought with the South Coast outfit and has failed to find the back of the net in 27 outings in all competitions.
There has been the talk of the Saints offloading the striker at the end of the season and Bent believes the Leicester-born ace could revive his career with a change in surroundings.
He added that he would like to see him playing for Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United, who failed with a £19m move for his services at the beginning of the year.
“It’s a sad one because I really like Che Adams, I’ve been a big fan of his but for whatever reason it’s just not happened for him,” The former Tottenham Hotspur striker told.
“Unfortunately, it’s just one of those things where it hasn’t worked. For me, I would like to see him go somewhere like Leeds and play – I would have liked to see him work out at Southampton but if not, then maybe go somewhere else.”
Adams was close to joining the Yorkshire outfit during the winter transfer window but the move failed to materialise after a change of stance from manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.
With the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the club are unlikely to receive a similar £19m package from Leeds when the transfer window reopens.
The Saints purchased Adams from the Blues for an initial £15m fee but it is reported that they may have to accept a reduced £10m package for his departure this summer.
Leeds currently have Patrick Bamford as the lead striker and he has experienced a decent season with 13 goals scored from 36 Championship outings.
The club are presently at the top of the league table with a seven-point advantage over third-placed Fulham and they are looking at the prospect of automatic promotion.
Suppose they return to the top-flight after a 16-year hiatus, Bielsa will want reinforcements up front and Adams could be offered a second chance to prove himself in the league.
