Liverpool are thought to be a long term admirer of Barcelona winger Cristian Tello. The Reds were heavily linked with a move for the youngster in the past. And it seems, they will go for him again this summer as well.
Recently, talkSport claimed that several European heavy weights including Liverpool are vying for his signature. The 22-year-old has struggled to make a big impression and has managed only two league starts for Barca this season.
Tello wants to leave Barcelona and continue his career in another club and it seems the Catalan giants won’t make his exit difficult.
Last year he decided to renew his contract despite strong interest from Liverpool, as a result of which his release clause bumped up to 22m. He said back then:
“I always wanted to stay here. The coach has confidence in me, I’m happy and ready to play. I knew that Liverpool were interested in me, but I never thought about leaving.”
Liverpool need sufficient squad depth for next season, as they prepare to rejoin the elites of Europe once again, having qualified for the Champions League football next season. Managing director Ian Ayre said recently that Liverpool will go to any extreme to land their targets.
Interestingly, the Reds have other targets as well, like Konoplyanka, but Brendan Rodgers can exploit the current situation of Tello, who could be a good addition to the squad. Porto are also interested and have enquired Barcelona about his price.
