Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has said that patience is the key as they strive to take the club back to where it belongs.

Although Rodgers stopped short of blaming Kenny Dalglish for the current situation at the club, but the Liverpool manager highlighted the fact that the club will have to amend the financial mess it had got into.

Liverpool are currently lying in the 12th place in the league and after their 1-1 draw with Newcastle.

But Rodgers is realistic in his approach and said that their no quick fix to Liverpool’s problems. The former Swansea manager has tried to install a different brand of football at the club, but the strength of the current squad (mostly brought by Kenny Dalglish) is way below Liverpool’s standard.

Rodgers has already shipped out Andy Carroll, Dirk Kuyt, Charlie Adam, Maxi Rodriguez and Craig Bellamy this season and it is clear that the Mersey side club is on an austerity drive.

Rodgers said in an interview before tonight’s match that he has no regrets in taking up this job at Anfield.

“There are certainly no regrets about coming here. It was always going to be a massive job. I signed a three-year deal but that process of rebuilding will go beyond that. Hopefully I can be here to do that.

“There is no quick fix here. We have to balance the finances and that is what we are doing. There will be a bit of pain on the way.” – Rodgers was quoted in press.

This season Rodgers has blooded in a lot of youngsters in the first team squad. The likes of Sterling and Suso have shined for Liverpool, and Rodgers believes that this is the way forward for the club.

Rodgers added:

“I came here for the challenge of getting the club to the top because that’s what you want to do as a manager. That’s easier said than done and there are two ways you go about that. You either invest enormously in getting the best players in or, if you can’t do that, you have to build and cultivate and grow your own.”

Last season Liverpool finished 37 points of eventual champions Manchester City and for a club of this stature that certainly isn’t good enough. Rodgers said that he wants the club to challenge for titles but that will take time. The Liverpool manager also stated that finishing in the top four remains his priority.

Rodgers explained:

“All I know is the statistics of the last three years. This is a club where ultimately the league is what we want to thrive in because that is always the best sign of the consistency of the team and the level of quality in your group.

“Unfortunately, it has been going the other way, so our job was to spin that around through hard work and pain and get us on an upward spiral. That’s the key job in the next couple of years. We want to be challenging in those top four positions and if you look at it now, there’s quite a bit of work to do.”

Liverpool’s match against Newcastle once again showed how dependent they are on Luis Suarez to deliver the goods. The Uruguayan international scored his 7th goal in the league to salvage a point for the Merseyside  club. According to a stat shared by Opta, Liverpool would have been at the bottom of the table without Suarez’s goal and assist.

Only Steven Fletcher of Sunderland has a bigger say in his side’s fortune. Brendan Rodgers would need to sign a striker in January to take some burden of Suarez’s shoulder; Liverpool must find another source for their goals.

But whether they are in a financial state to spend big this winter is question that needs to be answered. Their are lot of squad player in Liverpool who are on unbelievably high wages. The mess that Kenny Dalglish left at the club during his second stint will take time to clean up.

Rodgers will need backing from both the owners and fans during this period as he works towards his long term plan. The club needs a period of stability even if that cames at the cost of short term objectives.
