A failed attempt at picking the best goal from August 2006 – can you help?
So…August is over, transfer season is over, the international break is upon us and England are prancing about whispering sweet nothings to Andorra and Macedonia.
After the Middlesbrough v Portsmouth match on Monday I sat down to review the month’s goals and see if I could pick out the best one. Sadly, there’s no such thing as ‘the best goal’ out of this lot.
Should I pick from United’s 5 goals against Fulham or their 3 against Charlton? All 8 were good goals (the Fulham ones were just amazing though).
Or should I pick from Liverpool’s 2 against West Ham (when Aggers and Crouch helped them win 2-1) and Jimmy Bullard’s free kick against Sheffield United? If we’re going for long-range efforts Ivan Campo’s 43 yarder against Tottenham tops the list for distance but if you go for skill and team play surely United’s goals against Fulham carry greater merit?
I can’t decide, so here are the four goals I just mentioned, plus the best goal of the previous season.
Oh, and for the Manchester United goals, here you go again:
Peter Crouch – Liverpool vs West Ham
Daniel Agger – Liverpool vs West Ham
Jimmy Bullard – Fulham vs Sheffield United
Ivan Campo – Bolton vs Tottenham
