Schalke can go top of the table as they travel to face Hamburg in the Bundesliga.
Hamburg v Schalke Preview
Schalke can capitalize on Bayern Munich’s 2-1 loss at Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday if they can get a win at Hamburg. Heading into the match they are two points back of Bayern.
Hamburg are in sixth place heading into the match with 39 points and two points back of the last UEFA Europa League spot. Their home record is 7-4-2 record with a +10 goal difference and only 9 conceded. Schalke’s away form has been solid with a 6-4-2 record and +7 goal difference.
Schalke will be close to full strength with only Marcelo Bordon and Levan Kenia unavailable while Hamburg has Mladen Petric, Guy Demel, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Romeo Castelen, Thimothee Atouba, and Bastian Reinhardt out with injuries.
The leading scorer for Schalke is Kevin Kuranyi who has 13 in the Bundesliga including two in his last two matches. Hamburg will be without one of their their leader goalscorers, Mladen Petric, but do have Marcelle Jansen (six goals) and Ze Roberto (six goals) available on Sunday.
Schalke have won their last three league matches while Hamburg have lost 2 out of their last three. While Hamburg has several injures it should be a very competitive match. A result for Schalke would show they are ready to challenge Bayern for the league title while Hamburg need results to keep their Europa League chances alive.
