Makelele to retire at the end of this season

Former Real Madrid, Chelsea and French midfielder and current Paris St Germain captain, Claude Makelele has announced that he will retire at the end of this season. Makelele, 37, has been part of all but three PSG matches in the Ligue 1 this season.

He admits that he may change his mind in the summers. He said:

“It’s really my last season. My future is behind me. Today it’s my last season, but tomorrow that could change.”

Makelele moved to PSG in the summer of 2008 after a solid successful five years at the English club Chelsea. The former France international lifted two Premier League trophies, two League Cups and the FA Cup during his time in England, and has also won league titles in France and Spain as well as the 2002 UEFA Champions League with Real.

However, Makelele does have a history of going back on his decisions as he has come back from international retirement twice already.
