Schalke v Borussia Dortmund
German Bundesliga
Veltins Arena – Gelsenkirchen, Germany
26 February 2010 – 19:30 GMT
A clash between two of the top teams in the Bundesliga takes place on Friday as Schalke hosts Borussia Dortmund.
Schalke v Borussia Dortmund Preview
Third place Schalke can move to within one points of league leaders Bayer Leverkusen if they can get a win on Friday. Schalke has been the best defensive team in the league (conceding only 17 goals) and has the second highest wins in the league at home (8). Until last week’s loss at Wolfsburg, Schalke had been undefeated several months in the Bundesliga.
Borussia Dortmund is fifth in the Bundesliga table and has lost two of their last three matches. They are six points behind Schalke, one behind Hamburg SV, and four above sixth place Werder Bremen for the last UEFA Europa League spot. Dortmund’s away form has been average with a 4-4-4 record and a -3 goal difference.
Schalke is led by Kevin Kuranyi with 12 goals and Jefferson Farfan with 7 goals. Borussia Dortmund top goalscorer is Lucas Barrios followed by Mats Hummels with five goals, and Nelson Haedo Valdez with four goals. The two teams played in late September with Schalke getting a 1-0 victory at Dortmund. Both sides are currently in position to play in Europe next season but there’s still a lot of season left. Neither side is in danger of relegation.
Borussia Dortmund plays Borussia Monchengladbach in their next Bundesliga match after this one while Schalke will face Eintracht Frankfurt.
Schalke v Borussia Dortmund Prediction
Schalke are the better, stronger team and will get a 2-0 win at home.
